13 Introduction The market for medical cannabis is in many respects different from "classic" pharmaceutical mar- kets. There is not one homogeneous product class, but a broad portfolio of cannabis products, starting with finished products containing only one defined active ingredient (cannabinoid) at the molecular level, through standardized cannabis extracts and formulation substances, to cannabis flowers with very different active ingredient mixtures and contents. The type of processing and the variety of cannabis flower used depend on the doctor's prescription. The selec- tion is primarily based on the patient's symptoms. There are flowers with high or lower THC or CBD content, balanced varieties are also available. Furthermore, depending on the doctor's prescription, the flowers can be dispensed either crushed or uncrushed.
