The first useful indicators are the number of Cannabis prescriptions issued by doctors at the expense of SHI patients and the turnover reimbursed to pharmacies by the SHI funds. As long as no better data are available, they are to be supplemented, as before, by proportional estimates for prescriptions and sales in the private physician and hospital sectors. Between the beginning of 2018 and mid-2019, the development of SHI Cannabis prescriptions was characterised by largely steady growth, strong growth in preparations and at least positive growth in finished drugs. If the current linear trend is extended (separately for the two sub-markets) over a fur- ther five years, the 140 thousand Cannabis prescriptions in 2018 will increase almost threefold to 541 thousand prescriptions by 2023. The linear trend only takes into account the average quarterly increase in the number of Cannabis prescriptions to date, but not their internal growth dynamics. If this is also taken into account by ex- ponential trend extrapolations in both sub-markets, the result for all Cannabis prescriptions together is an increase that grows with each year. The 140,000 recipes in 2018 will then become almost 4 million recipes by 2023.
