10 Controlling and monitoring A road map that is as complete and optimally structured as possible is a prerequisite for suc- cessful market access. The sufficient condition, however, is the continuous and periodic con- trolling, monitoring and implementation of the road map. The monitoring particularly follows the individual activities within a module, whereas the controlling pays more attention to the outcome of a respective module. Road map checklist In principle, the design of a road map to market access depends primarily on the type of product (drug - medical device - diagnostic) and the time horizon of the road map (pre - launch or post - launch or integral road map). The other key determinant for the design of the road - map is the determination of the main care sector, because this triggers the corresponding evaluation procedures and reimburse- ment mechanisms. The example in the checklist below provides a valid basis for designing the road map to mar- ket access.
